Why apply acrylic coatings to concrete – the benefits

Simply put, the benefits of including acrylic coatings for concrete directly address all the negatives that could happen if you don’t apply it, such as:

  • Moisture damage
  • Increased wear and tear
  • Staining

So, if you’re looking to improve the durability, colour preservation, adhesion and application of your concrete product then let’s look further into the benefits of applying acrylic coatings.

Moisture regulation

As concrete is a porous substrate, without some sort of coating, water, water vapours and other liquids can easily penetrate the surface and through freeze-thaw cycles the concrete structure may weaken and cracks and chips may form.

What’s special about our polymer-based coating, is that it is more than just a moisture barrier, it is a flexible coating which can react to freeze-thaw cycles. Meaning that the concrete is less susceptible to damage from cracks and surface degradation.

It also reduces the absorption rate of water in concrete during the drying process and therefore prevents premature curing. By preventing this the concrete is able to cure to its full strength and can lead to longer durability.

Dust binding

When applied, the coating can bind to free particles and surface dust that is inherent with concrete. This can lead to a solid and dust free surface, that not only looks better, is easier to clean but it also provides a more stable surface for coatings.

Enhanced durability

Especially when used outside, acrylic coatings can lead to substantial longevity of the substrate against UV rays. Which can help prevent fading and discolouration. And its sealing element can create a protective layer on the surface that prevents stains from penetrating the concrete.

Our high-performance acrylics

AptiCryl is our range of high-performance acrylics, which includes an acrylic coating for concrete retouching and colouration as well as AptiCryl RTC, a high-performance pigmented acrylic coating for surface application onto concrete roofing tiles.

AptiCryl Concrete Paint has been designed for application onto cured concrete, for both internal and external use. Available in a wide range of colours, or matched to an existing shade, it provides an even coating and contains an antibacterial/anti-mould additive.
